I’ve Been Hacked…

I could just cry. As you may know, my niece and I have been working very hard on updating My Yellow Farmhouse. You can imagine my shock and dismay when I discovered everything we had done was wiped out – and replaced by a totally boring black and white color scheme with totally different fonts.

The worst part about it all is the lovely new logo and photos have been eliminated. I tried to at least reinstate that… to no avail…

And now I’ve learned that, because my niece & I had connected my computer to hers via ‘join me’, the My Yellow Farmhouse Facebook page as also been accessed. And… Facebook reminded me that my email account can now be accessed. Get this – when I tried to change my email password account, I was requested to include my credit card number!!!

I apologize for the rather bland look of My Yellow Farmhouse at the moment. I’m sure we’ll figure out something. To drown my sorrows, I’ve just ordered Baby Back Ribs from ’99 Restaurant’, which I shall enjoy while watching a good movie. As Scarlet O’Hara once said, “Tomorrow is another day” !!

I don’t want this post to be ONE BIG BUMMER – so here’s a photo from better days – from a trip to the Florida Keys !!

    1. Luckily – I was able to recover what we’d done. back ! It didn’t take me too long – luckily. If you asked me how I was able to recover it… I couldn’t tell you – so I hope it never happens again!
I’d like to kick that guy’s butt, let me tell you! I had to waste quite a bit of time resetting certain passwords – and trying to fix this. Oh well, it could’ve been a lot worse!

  1. I was unable to post this last night because I was ‘locked out’ of my account’ but NOT ANYMORE!
++ I think the real problem lies with the fact that my niece & I connected our computers via a kind of ‘go to meeting’ site called ‘join me’. It worked & I could see what she was doing and give my opinion/suggestions.
About the middle of our session, strange things began to happen. I think that’s when the hacker got into my Word Press account. And, also, into my Facebook ‘My Yellow Farmhouse’ account because I made my niece administrator so she could do a little work on that page.
I did manage to restore most of what we’d done on ‘My Yellow Farmhouse’ without too much trouble, luckily.
I tell you – I’m never going to have any website ‘remember’ my password again, although it’ll be a total pain…
Thanks for your concern Mimi – I really appreciate it!
P S I now have an ‘extra layer’ of protection from Word Press and, from now on, if I want to change my password, a unique code will be sent to my cell phone to ascertain it’s indeed MOI ! (Ain’t Word Press just great?!)

  2. I think the real problem lies not at all with Word Press but with the fact that my niece & I ‘connected’ are computers via a kind of ‘go to meeting’ site called ‘join me’. It connected our computers and it worked sooo well because I could see what she was doing, then give my opinion/suggestions. About the middle of our session, strange things began happening…. I think that’s when the hacker was able to get into my Word Press account.
I so happy that I was able to, finally restore most of what we had done and it wasn’t too much trouble. I tell you, though, I’m never going to have a website ‘remember’ my password again, although it’ll be a total pain to log in each & every time. And… it did take some time to restore my email password because I kept getting a site (no matter how I tried) that wanted my credit card info! Thank you Mr. Hacker!! I got in touch with the company over the phone, so hopefully I’m OK….
Thanks for your comment – a really appreciate it!

  3. So sorry to hear about it. Must be devastating to put all this work and end up with nothing. I hope you’ll be able to restore everything somehow.
Makes me reconsider any thought about changing anything on my blog….
    Good luck… 🙂

  4. I’ve changed the passwords on my Facebook, email & Word Press accounts. And – I attempted to get back to what my niece & I had done last night. I don’t think I’ve done too bad of a job on my own, but I’ll just have to wait for my niece ‘to work her magic’ and bring ‘My Yellow Farmhouse’ back to what we had achieved before we were so ungraciously hacked..

  5. I just got my email password restored – without ‘giving my credit card number’….!!! So annoying – but – at least that’s fixed, for the moment…
